The Jacques Prévert House

The Jacques Prévert house is the last residence where the artist lived from 1971 to 1977. He discovered La Hague in the 1930s and often returned there for holidays in the following years. In the late 1960s, Alexandre Trauner, a film set designer and friend of Jacques Prévert, bought a house in Omonville-la-Petite, which he renovated and furnished. Jacques and Janine Prévert entrusted him with the renovation of a house they also purchased in this small village in 1970. Thanks to Trauner, the house, which had been dark and compartmentalized, became bright and airy. The Prévert couple moved in in 1971. Dividing their time between Paris and La Hague, they returned to their Norman house during the warmer months. From 1975 onwards, the couple lived exclusively in Omonville-la-Petite, until the death of Jacques Prévert on April 11, 1977. He was buried in the municipal cemetery following a civil funeral.
