The Hague
La Hague houses an exceptional geological heritage. A very small territory, barely 150 km², it allows to plunge into 2.1 billion years of history of the earth, that is to say to observe the oldest mainland in mainland France and to tell half of the history of our planet. It indeed contains the remains of three old mountain chains: the Icartian chain (dated 2 billion years), the Cadomian chain (between 650 and 540 million years) and the Varisque (or Hercynian; built; built around 300 million years ago). The sedimentary deposits constituting some of its lively cliffs also make it possible to assess fluctuations in the sea level and climate change for the last 200,000 years.
