The architecture of the Hague. An inheritance heritage

Inhabited since prehistoric times, the Hague peninsula was shaped by the women and men who succeeded each other. This territory, rural and coast, is characterized by a mosaic of reliefs, agricultural and natural environments, a diversity of landscapes and architectures which give it a singular identity. Its numerous villages and dispersed hamlets still maintain ancient constructions testifying to the social origin of the inhabitants, traditional know-how as well as lifestyles and past economic activities. Its architectural heritage also reflects the richness of its geological subsoil. The sandstones, the arkoses, the shales, the granites or the gneiss used thus make it possible to distinguish such a hamlet of another.

This work invites you to discover the diversity of the built heritage of the Hague, whether buildings for domestic, religious use, agricultural and artisanal buildings, hydraulic works or even equipment related to fraud and smuggling.
