Guided tours

Each year, in partnership with the Cotentin tourist office are organized guided tours of the geoparc by speakers, in the form of hiking.

Thematic in nature, they allow us to explore the history, geography, archaeology of La Hague, the great men who lived there… The formats vary from 2.5 km for the shortest, to sometimes nearly 8 km.

In the land of the oldest rocks in France

La Hague is a territory with a truly unique geology. Its landscape is particularly majestic, thanks in part to its 2-billion-year-old rocks, the oldest in France. From the Bay of Ecalgrain to the hamlet of Samson, through the bocage countryside, the history of this windswept land unfolds before our eyes.

Vauville is surely one of the most typical villages of the Cotentin peninsula, with its streams, wash houses, bridges, and houses built of local stone and covered with schist. It's an ideal place to adopt a geological perspective and learn about the archaeology of buildings, and where "reading a wall" allows you to better understand how this charming hamlet has developed over time.

The rocks of Pointe de Jardeheu immerse us in an
almost unimaginable history, dating back 610 to 575 million
years. At that time, La Hague was likely a
chain of volcanic islands, bordered to the north by a vast ocean
and to the south by a marine area close to the supercontinent
Gondwana. Pointe de Jardeheu also tells a
much more recent story: the formation of a beach approximately
115,000 years ago, on the eve of the last ice age.

This guided tour invites you to walk in the
footsteps of the lighthouse keepers, fishermen and
sailors who shaped the soul of this place. From the
port of Goury, nestled in a protected cove,
to the semaphore that watches over the horizons.

Tales and legends of La Hague

While science and facts are important, what would
life be without a touch of magic and mystery? This
storytelling walk will take you to the port and the neighborhoods
of the village of Omonville-la-Rogue, nestled between the sea and ancient
stones. These places, these landscapes, are the ancestral lands
of the tales and legends of La Hague: stories of fairies,
of varou, of a dragon-serpent, and even of corsairs.
