Conference and debate: Differentiated management of spaces towards

September 15, 2026

Join us on Monday, October 26th at 6:00 PM at the Michel-Canoville Cultural Center for the final conference and discussion of the year. While the theme of the 2026 conferences focused on the plant heritage of La Hague, this final conference will address the differentiated management of green spaces and will be led by Axel Equilbey, a DPLG* landscape architect.

Differentiated management has been a common approach implemented and practiced by local authorities throughout France since the 2000s. It aims to create green spaces that are both more resilient and adapted, attractive in terms of the effects produced, and requiring as little maintenance as possible.

The flowerbeds in town centers are not managed in the same way as the large, extensive grassy areas located in the outskirts of municipalities. Municipal gardeners must therefore broaden their skills to be equally adept at designing and maintaining diverse flowerbeds and managing wildflower meadows. Thus, in addition to standard horticultural practices, they must now incorporate skills and knowledge in naturalistic management.

The conference will provide an opportunity to present and understand the underlying principles of this essential approach to ensuring harmonious spaces for all.

Axel Equilbey is a DPLG-certified landscape architect. After working as a designer in various design offices and as a freelancer, he turned to teaching, both at the École Supérieure de Jardin/École Nationale Supérieure du Paysage Versailles and as a regular trainer for the CNFPT (National Centre for Territorial Public Service). In this capacity, he leads field training courses covering topics such as soil science, floral displays, and differentiated management.

The La Hague lecture and debate series, part of the cultural program, offers an annual opportunity for discussion and reflection with renowned specialists on current events. These lectures aim to foster knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes that empower individuals to become responsible actors contributing to a more sustainable world.
